When you say the word costume most people think instantly of children’s parties, ghoulish Halloween masks and fairy tale girls of animals turned into mini-skirted caricatures of themselves. But what has happened to the beauty and artistry of a classic costume, the elegance of a masquerade in which no mini skirted versions of fairy tale girls exist?
For most people the time and effort taken to create a unique and lovely costume is more than they care to expend. But one woman has a completely different view of things. Ashlee Rice of Let’s Face It makeup studio in Midland TX loves to put in the time and effort needed to create a beautiful and fantastic costume for her clients. Friendly and easy going, Ashlee makes the time fly as she turns her clients into divas, geishas, Egyptian queens and more.
Before writing this article, I took a costume session with Ashlee, so that I could get the full experience of what she does, and it was worth every minute spent to see the end result. Ashlee takes the time to research the requested theme beforehand to ensure accuracy as well as beautiful stylistic detail. Her artistic eye and wonderful attention makes for delicate, well-built and beautiful creations. And her easy manner and friendly nature makes the entire process relaxing and enjoyable. The entire event was like a mix between a pampering session and a dress-up party. Sure to thrill the hearts of girls at any age.
Ashlee has several reasons behind what she does. The first and foremost being that she believes she was given a gift by God and she is to use it to help other people. She loves to see her clients look in the mirror and be amazed by what is revealed. When a woman comes in who hasn’t felt pretty in years and is unable to tear herself away from the mirror by the end of it, she feels that she has accomplished what she set out to do. She will do make up for any occasion from wedding to proms to a simple backyard party. Every client, no matter the occasion gets the same special treatment and personal attention geared towards making them feel as special and lovely as possible.
She also loves the theatrical merits that make up holds and relishes being allowed to let her creativity loose when transforming someone from a mere mortal into a fairy, a Tudor queen, an 80’s pop star, or any other character you can imagine. Giving her a new challenge is always welcome as she loves to add to her repertoire. The sky is the limit and she delights in reaching for it.
You can find Ashlee on facebook her website or at her studio, 4400 N. Big Spring Ste B18 in the Mission Square shopping center. Look her up, it’s well worth the effort.
