Asher Roth at The Viper Room

Asher Roth performed at The Viper Room, on Dec. 30. He was promoting his album “Pabst & Jazz”.

Roth’s Disc Jockey, DJ Wreckineyez, appeared on stage with a photographer that looked like Jay from “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”. Next to the DJ booth were two Evian bottles of water. He warmed up the crowd with hip-hop newcomer, Little Christopher.

Little Christopher stated his mixtape would be available on Jan. 1. He wore a turquoise baseball cap, a blazer, a black graphic t-shirt, khaki pants and loafers. He had his ears pierced and he wore bracelets. He performed the song, “Rooftops”, and it had a similar sound to that of Lupe Fiasco and Jill Scott’s song, “Daydreamin’”. At the end of Little Christopher’s performance, Roth appeared. Shortly after, Little Christopher left the stage.

Wreckineyez wore a baseball cap, a letterman’s jacket, and glasses. Roth wore a California Raisins sweater, jeans, white shoes, and they both put on a fake moustache. His drummer and his bassist appeared on stage, later. Then, Wreckineyez played “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)” by Digable Planets. The drummer had dreadlocks, wore a gray Thrasher sweater and jeans. The bassist wore a beanie, a flannel shirt, dark khakis, and loafers.

As Roth was performing, he grabbed a camera from an audience remember and turned it around on them. As he introduced the song, he mentioned that business and music shouldn’t mix. As the band continued to play the song, he stage dove into the crowd. The crowd was a bit hesitant, at first. He almost touched the ground but the audience managed to pick him back up and onto the stage.

Roth performed the next song but his microphone cuts out. His foot knocked the microphone loose, when he returned to the stage. He picked up another microphone and didn’t lose a beat. Then, he gave high fives to the audience members and knuckle pounded the audience.

Technical difficulties seemed to have plagued Roth’s performance. His footing unplugged another microphone and as everyone left the stage for an encore, the stage curtains began to close. Everyone rushed back in and Wreckineyez  they had one more song to do. The curtains were drawn back open and they finished their set.

Everyone expected Roth to perform, “I Love College” but he didn’t. He performed “G.R.I.N.D. (Get Ready It’s a New Day)”. Then, the performed a little shuffle.
