Ashen Rider is one of the newest "Theros" spoilers revealed today Sept. 8, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set in an article on TopDecker.GR. Ashen Rider can effectively be a three-for-one, and although it has a high casting cost of eight that really isn't such a big deal when you control a Crypt Ghast.
Ashen Rider - 4WWBB
Creature - Archon (Mythic Rare)
When Ashen Rider enters the battlefield or dies, exile target permanent.
One offering to appease her on her arrival. Another to celebrate her departure.
Unburial Rites may be leaving Standard, however there's still several other options for cheating Ashen Rider onto the battlefield. One card in particular that works extremely well with Ashen Rider is Rescue from the Underworld, allowing you to exile an extra two permanents if Ashen Rider is the creature that you've sacrificed. Even worse for your adversary is if you've reanimated another Ashen Rider. Obzedat's Aid will also let you bring Ashen Rider back to life, and with a Gift of Immortality this Archon will be a nightmare for your opponent.
It's important to note that Ashen Rider says it can exile any permanent, not just non-land permanents. That means Ashen Rider can help you deal with annoying lands like Mutavault and Maze of Ith. Ashen Rider can also take out pesky planeswalkers like Xenagos, the Reveler and Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver.
How will you use Ashen Rider?
