Asexuals using allosexual to distinguish between aces, other sexualities

Asexuals are developing their own language. Other gender and sexual minorities used their own symbols long before AVEN and Haven for the Human Amoeba appeared. Michael Abernethy, a Pop Matters columnist, wrote about the verbal and visual language other gender and sexual minorities use. He touched briefly on asexuality. A new word, allosexual, appeared in the asexual community in the last year. It is not widely accepted. Even gender neutral singular pronouns are better known, but it may see broader use. Asexual bloggers coined the term to avoid confusion caused by using the word sexual to refer to anyone who is lesbian, gay or bisexual.

Allosexual serves the same purpose in the asexual community as cisgender does in the transgender community. (Note: Lara will adopt this word if she feels that using ‘sexual’ and ‘asexual’ to denote the difference causes too many problems.)
