Vocalist, producer, musician, songwriter and Atlanta native, Jan Smith, was awarded the 2011 Women Behind the Music award by ASCAP’s Jennifer Drake at the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul 3rd annual Women Behind the Music series at Straits Restaurant on 18 November 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Jan Smith goes by many titles in the music industry. As her website proudly proclaims, she is called “the bomb” by Rob Thomas, “Mama” by Usher and “the secret sauce” by Scooter Braun, with industry executives calling on Smith for vocal coaching and producing.
On Friday, her many gifts and strengths were recognized as Jan Smith was awarded her ASCAP award, right along with the multi-talented and world-renown Janelle Monae and entertainment lawyer Uwonda Carter.
Janelle Monae, with her unique, chic style, wore a jaunty black fedora to accessorize her belted LBD (little black dress), paired with knee-high boots, while Jan Smith was right on-trend with a black fur vest and Uwonda Carter wore a cobalt blue graphic printed and rouched dress that showed her figure off to perfection!
Also attending were Roman GianArther (loved the top hat!), T.Battle (on-trend with the plaid!), and Jay Noel Yuenger in charcoal grey sweater.
Performances at the awards included Avery Sunshine. Enjoy the slide show of the event and thanks for reading!
