What a difference a year can make in the world of social gaming. In early 2011 the upcoming IPO (initial public offering) of Zynga was all the buzz. They were flying high and seemed to have a new game coming out every week. Then in mid December of that year the big day finally arrived as Zygna was all set to list their company on NASDAQ. Almost immediately the stock started on a downward spiral and now here we are with 2012 ending and now the mighty Zynga is purging some of those games that only last year were the next big must play game on Facebook.
To cut some of their loses Zynga started purging some of their less profitable games. 11 games in total are getting the ax by the social gaming company that once boasted having the top games on Facebook. Of the 11 games seeing their demise one, Indiana Jones Adventure World, didn't even make it to the end of January of 2012 and 2 of the games, PetVille and Mafia Wars 2, actually made it until December 30, 2012. The rest of the games their end were Fishville, the game where you created your own virtual aquarium; Treasure Island, a game that was introduced on Farmville; Vampire Wars; Mafia War Shakedown; ForestVille; Montopia;Mojitomo and Word Scramble Challenge.
"In place of 'PetVille,' we encourage you to play other Zynga games like 'Castleville,' 'Chefville,' 'Farmville 2,' 'Mafia Wars' and 'Yoville,'" the company told players on its 'PetVille' Facebook page.
