“I do want to apologize for what happened the other night,” Mayweather said. “I want to apologize to everybody. They felt it was a racist comment that came from me. I don’t have a racist bone in my body, you know. I love everybody." -- Floyd Mayweather Jr. after his racist and homophobic rant heard all over the boxing world
As a man, it was big for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to accept his mistake and apologize for his racist, homophobic and flat-out hateful remarks, and for him to further squash his beef against Bob Arum to express his condolences for the the unfortunate loss of his former promoter, who's 49-year-old son John was was found dead at the Cascade Mountains in Washington state Friday, is also a sign of maturity from the 33-year-old pride of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In behalf of the fun-loving, well-meaning and laid back but sometimes impulsive and provokable Filipino fans: Apology accepted.
The recent display of contrition and humbler side of the oft offensive, obscene and boisterous Mayweather is definitely a breathe of fresh air, although it is about time that the said traits come as expected from one of boxing's main attractions. I do believe that Mayweather is not as boorish as he presents himself to be in the media, but I also think there's an ugly and immature side of him that enjoys and relishes acting out his villainous persona. It's about time we expected more from Mayweather and for him to grow up and quit making a mockery of the same sport that has made him who he is and afforded him all the luxuries and riches he so dearly worships.
As difficult as it is for some to issue an apology, and Mayweather did catch a lot of people off guard when he owned up to his tirades against Pacquiao and his ethnicity, the real hard part is proving your sincerity. The problem with Mayweather goes beyond the racist or homophobic comments that he made- it's his childish and hateful ways that truly give boxing a black eye.
Charles Barkley once said in an Nike ad campaign that he "is not a role model". The same message is definitely heard loud and clear from Mayweather. At the same time however, Mayweather, whether he likes it or not, has to realize that he has a responsibility to his sport. Quoting Pacquiao quoting Peter Parker: "with great power comes great responsibility".
Mayweather definitely deserves everything he has gotten and achieved throughout his career, but to a certain extent, he owes the sport certain things like respect. Why would you even try to hurt and destroy the same industry that helped create you? And by respect I mean, he does not need to to fight Pacquiao just because everyone else wants him to. If he does not want to fight Pacquiao, and as unfortunate as that is for all boxing fans around the world. he doesn't have to fight him. But for him to spread all the hatred, lies and media manipulation he is doing that is hurting the sport as much as he tries to taint Pacquiao's reputation is uncalled for. If he doesn't want to fight Pacquiao, just say it or at least stop the propaganda.
When was the last time you heard Pacquiao disrespect the sport of boxing or try to drag it down for the sake of his own benefit? You may not believe him or agree with all his decisions and actions, but at least you don't see this guy making a fool out of the sport of boxing and spreading idiotic comments and lies that promote one culture to go against another. There's a very clear line between self-promotion and being rude and promoting hatred.
As a man, Mayweather asked for fans to pardon him if he had offended any of them. Fame and influence are dangerous things. If fans are indeed to honor Mayweather's apology, he needs to start presenting himself as such- if not for boxing or for respect, do it at least for those who follow and believe. I honestly admire Mayweather fans as much as I do Pacquiao fans. Their loyalty to their guy resemble each other, but all the racial stuff from both sides just needs to be cleaned out. Mayweather needs to act more of the man he did when he apologized, on a daily basis. Failure to do so would mean that this is nothing new compared to his previous antics. Nothing more than cheap publicity.
Side Note: When I first penned my response 3 nights ago regarding Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s racist rants, I felt the need to bring attention to the incident due to its hateful nature. What bothered me more than Mayweather's filthy comments was the lack of mainstream media attention regarding the issue. Mayweather's comments came a few days prior, and it was only brought to my attention by readers and fans who asked for my opinion on the subject. I was surprised there wasn't a backlash from mainstream media yet at the time so I took it upon myself to put the issue on blast. Today, through Mayweather's apology and the coverage ESPN and bigger outlets have given this issue, an injustice was corrected. This is a moral win for people being discriminated against and Filipinos as well. There was a time when African-Americans were being neglected the same way I feel and observe some minorities are at this moment. This is not the first incident involving Mayweather and racism towards Filipinos. Remember the press conference where esteemed Filipino broadcaster Chino Trinidad was barred for interviewing Mayweather because he is Filipino? I'm happy to say that even in this small way, we were able to right something wrong. Racism and hate aren't cool and there's definitely nothing funny about it. Hopefully we can all come out better from this incident. Mabuhay and Pilipino.

He is not a man rather an animal...
HE APOLOGIZED THEN SAID THAT HE'S JUST HAVING FUN??? WHAT KIND OF ANIMAL IS THAT??? WHAT IF I JUST FUCKED UP HIS FAMILY THEN SAID THAT I WAS JUST HAVING FUN??? DOES IT SOUND GOOD TO HIM??? LUCKILY CONGRESSMAN PACMAN THINKING IS SO BROAD COMPARE TO THAT HAIR-THIN MIND ARROGANT BUT COWARD FMJR.
"Fake Money" Floyd takes haterism to a whole new level with his racist homophobic rant against Manny Pacquiao and an entire race of people. Then he offers an apology that is as phony as the counterfeit bills he makes it rain with. Damn, Petty Boy, stop hatin' on Pacman just because he is considered the best in the sport by everybody but your blind following. Just stop the hating and start cashing the checks that your mouth is writing. You are still in the check cashing business, right?
THERE YOU GO PEOPLE,THIS IS GAYWETHEAR'S CHEAP TRICKS.AS WE ALL KNOW HE DOESN'T HAVE A FIGHT AND YET YOU PEOPLE WANT TO TALK ABOUT HIM.HE WANTS TO BE WITH PACQUIAO'S SHADOW EVERYTIME.WHY NOT TALK ABOUT PACQUIAO-MARGARITO INSTEAD OF MAKING COMMENTS WITH GAYWEATHER?
Is it that simple for you to accept Mayweather's apology dSource? are you satisfied with Mayweather saying sorry just like that? without the backlash, do you think mayweather would have have said sorry? so that tells you how sincere he is. Try to picture yourself in Mayweather's shoes at the time he was saying those things and ask yourself, did you say those things just for fun?...or was there genuine intent in making those statements sound the way it did? Again, is it that simple for you dSource?
Ah i get the logic from your pea brain, Dennis. Since ur a filipino, you can now speak on behalf of the filipinos. And since you're also an asian you can now speak on behalf of the koreans or thais or japanese or chinese or Indians? or even the lebanese, iranians or afghans? Get off your high horse guillermo!
He's not a man. He's a mother f*cker nigger animal.
he wears kasi reebok singko ang tapok.hehe

correction! mayweather did not apologize to pacquiao or the filipinos/asians,, he apologize for himself,,for what damage he had done to himself..listen carefully to what he had said nin his so called apology!!
dennis, concur with you that an apology from some people can be accepted, but when you assumed that its okay to accept mayweathers' apology in behalf of pacman fans is totally unacceptable to many and i think you have crossed the line this time on this unpopular decision you made. The many negative comments posted in reaction to your article speaks for itself. It's not for me to say that the intended purpose of your article headlined with "apology acceptance" is to mainly stir up more disagreements between you and boxing fans, esp among Pacman fans, but if it is, then you have obviously succeeded.
I know that internet writers now a days is getting paid either 0.01 to 0.10 cents per word, depending upon the agreement between the writer and Examiner.com. However, there's always a posiibility that writers who can generate more people to read and react to their article will perhaps get extra bonus pay. Obviously, this is the main reason why most writers from the Philippines writes mostly controversial article to get paid more.
wow! the stuff youvve been taking Guillermo must have been reallly that strong! You've become DELUSIONAL! YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR ALL OF THE FILIPINOS! yOU WERE NOT ELECTED, NOT DELEGATED, NOR AUTHORIZED TO SPEAK FOR US. You know why? Ur not qualified and frankly...... YOU"RE NOBODY ecxept in your hazy mind when you take those mushrooms. quit taking those stuff dude !
wtf! this writer owes all filipinos an apology for being so bigheaded that he thinks he speaks for all of us! His is exactly the kind of response that perpetuates other people's racist behavior to others. No way am i gonna offer my other cheek after one side has been slapped. Reality demands we stand and man up! Unlike MISS guillermo filipinos are NOT WIMPS!
Dennis,
I did not even bother reading the entire column, got quarter of the way and stop already.
You really do not disappoint on taking your readers to a roller-coaster rides of self righteousness and MASTURBATION.
" question? After you have written this article, DID YOU CONGRATULATE YOURSELF BY SHAKING HAND WITH YOUR OTHER HAND AFTER EJACULATION "
I' ll just ignore all your writing from now on, to make my LIFE less challenging.
dennis, i haven't read ur column yet,but i just want to say something. how could floyd start to act like a man? believe me, i have given up the fight, and i truly believe it won't happen. that is since the failure of the 2nd negotiation. flod's fans still accuse pacqauio of PED use when writers now confirm that pacquiao agreed to floyd's demands, including strict blood testing and bigger share of the pie. here's what i can say. i know two people from my work who said both are scared to fight each other. really? i say, the one who makes the fight difficult, that's the one who's afraid. guys, start accepting this: the fight won't happen. i already have long time ago.
it was a fake apology he made for fear of losing his endorsements. the racial slur was started by his father then uncle but then nobody took them to task for it. juslt like a fake fighter his apology was fake. he should just get back to having sex with animals. ooops i apologize, just having fun.am sure you are happy mr writer knowing that you paid for his ppv bout with a known and admitted cheater steroid user mosley , the other brother.
I agree that Mayweather's comments were uncalled for but let's not forget these guys come from the sport of boxing. It's not tennis or golf, it's a sport in which two guys beat each other upside the head in a ring. When Pac said he would "shut mayweather's pretty mouth" a few months back, he wasnt referring to checkmating him in a game of chess, he was threatening to inflict physical injury on him. Mayweather has also promised to KO pac. So all this name calling is really childish by comparison. We all know Mayweather does this sort of immature trash talking all the time. At least he's finally showing interest in facing pac. hopefully, we'll have the chance to witness which fighter backs up their word.
THIS LOW LIFE FMJR SAID, HE JUST WANT THE GREAT PACMAN TO THINK THAT PAC IS GOING TO WIN AGAINST HIM, BUT LOOK WHOS TALKING ABOUT THE WINNING HERE? PACMAN NEVER SAID THAT HE'S GOING TO WIN A FIGHT WITH ARROGANT BUT COWARD FMJR , BUT RATHER HE'S WILLING TO CHALLENGE HIM AND GIVE AN EXCITING FIGHT FOR ALL THE FANS OF BOXING... IF I WERE FLOYD, ID RATHER TAKE IT INTO ACTION RATHER THAN DO A LOT OF UNEDUCATED TALKING... TALK IS CHEAP!!! JUST GET IT ON!!!
believe me the fight won't happen.
f*uck forgiveness........guess what happened in world war II.....when nobody stopped hitler's hatred until 6 million got the gas chamber
Fuck KFC. That apology was not sincere at all. Fuck Mayweather and his Yes-Sir crew!
He apologizes to the public not to the man he offended. Boooooo.
right! most people seemed to have missed that.
After he massacred the people in the Asian continent just for fun?Pure metallic elements will destroy itself by its own rust.Truth you've said Mr. dennis apology is not the hardest thing to do proving your sincerity is the hardest.Gold plated metals will remain metal as they are.Nobody could straighten an old bamboo tree it will surely break it self once you try.

IF ITS SINCERE WHY NOT??? BUT FOR ME, I DONT THINK SO... AFTER THAT, HE WILL TELL YOU AGAIN THAT HES JUST HAVING FUN FUCKIN' AROUND AND FOR BEING SO PATHETIC AND RACIST.
he's right. he doesn't a racist bone in his body. he only has a racist mind. and when his racist mind got something to say, his mouth delivers the message.
It is very sad for an African-American to have a racist view and opinion. Maybe Mayweather needs to read history and look back where he belongs. Racism is going back because of these ignorant remarks. In this time of globalization, everyone should do something to stop it.
floyd must be ban from boxing, if no organization or boxing organization body that will do that, let's the funs do the job, boycott all his fights. he should not be a role model of the coming generation, For those companies that are sponsoring, just a reminder this guy will just damage your company reputations.
,
In my opinion, Floyd Jr. apologized to everybody. However, the one person he really should apologized to is Manny Pacquiao who he didn't mention and still continues to disrespects still. One day, karma is going to bite you back lil Floyd Jr.!
stop all hate! let mayweather be.. he's gonna have to deal with it. what's more sad to see is all the negative responses from fellow filipinos. really are u hurt?? let's just stay proud and move on. to fire back with your own ego gives such a bad perception to our people. there is so much boxing can do internationally. let's not give in to a boxers ego. with boxing's slow downfall we don't need to add to it. let's turn this around and bring back the positive impact of the sport. if your really proud of your heritage then let's do like pacman and help eachother out in a positve manner. all the backlash won't make us better.
lol. guillermo is censoring his critics. i just pointed out how childish his anti-floyd injustice-to-humanity call-for-arms diatribe is and he deleted my comment but left those "floyd is an animal" comments. who's the racist now? proves dennis guillermo is not a man by censoring dissenting opinion instead of engaging in dialogue. who's the coward now? what? are you deleting this one as well? go ahead i have all day.
floyd ain't a racists, he's just an idiotic douche bag...
Floyd is gay. No doubt.
i don't buy his apology..really
Floyd's apology is obviously not sincere and he just making us fool. Strangely though, he didn't actually mention the groups or individuals he made offensive remarks about in his speech. No mention is made of the fact that he made offensive comments towards Manny, that he continually uses derogatory terms offensive to homosexuals or the fact that he made several racist remarks directed towards Asians, an ethnic group incidentally missing from his list of associates. Now, don't let him fool us again. The damage is done. He's apology is nothing.
I'm from middle class america and this mayweather flaunts his gold like his a god.. I can't fathom how much greed, goons and gold this jackass has and still consider himself as a self righteous american athlete! But moreso, being a black american and now shows courage to insinuate racial undertone to people i know have so much respect to americans! Floyd Mayweather jr, does not even know his racial background and it's history. The respect I have for Joe Louis, mohammad ali and other colored boxers is still with utmost regards because of the principles and beliefs they bring with them. On the other hand, Mayweather is just a modern, cheap and classless boxer who happens to still be unbeaten but has no courage to face the best fighter of his age and class.. I'll throw out my good old reebok in defiance to mayweathers' wanton disrespect to the struggles of middle class america and his racist attacks to our asian friends and people in the gay community!
DENNIS,
IT SEEMS TO ME THAT FLOYD JR. WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS WHEN HE MADE THOSE STATEMENTS. POOR FLOYD. JR. CAN'T HANDLE THE PRESSURE THATS WHY HE STARTED TO TALKED TRASHES AGAIN & AGAIN. HE FELT THE PRESSURE..WHICH MEANS HE WAS LOSING THE BATTLE EVEN BEFORE THE WAR STARTED..PACMANS FANS SHOULD CELEBRATE.
Boxing fans are tired of Floyd's excuses, arrogance and racism. Pacquiao is definitely correct that HE DON'T NEED FLOYD but the other way around. I for one, do believe now that Floyd Mayweather doesn't deserve a rich and delicious piece from Pacquiao sweepstakes. It's time to let him go.
Yeah just let Floyd be Floyd. Manny doesn't need him. Time to let him go. He doesn't deserve the payday that a fight with Manny would bring. I agree 100%. The only thing Floyd deserves is to face the upcoming defamation lawsuit against him. Maybe that will humble him a little bit. Probably not.
Asked a Psychologist friend what makes men like Floyd do and say such things. Some of the reasons given: Insecurity and Confidence. Confidence? Yes. Confidence in believing that he can get away with any dirty tactics, disrespect and disgusting things one does. As in untouchable, powerful, etc. I think the latter applies to Floyd. He thinks he can get away with all the rants. But lo and behold!! He heard that there is a petition online requesting his sponsors to boycott him. Then he apologized half-heartedly on tube. I believe one saw this weakness in Floyd. HIS SPONSORS!!! Are we going to continue this petition? Let the sponsors decide.
Nada.., Kaput.., Nil.., Empty.., Nothing.., Zero.., name it as you like but Floyd's hitting the Pacquiao jackpot is now turned sour. Whoever his dance partner, Manny can make a rich payday for both because he is the center of attraction and crowd drawer. He is so far the best in PPV. So forget about Mayweather. He doesn't deserve to be part of the richest fight in the history of boxing.
Look at him, he looks like a monkey.
I was referring to Flyd's ENDORSERS not SPONSORS, sorry. Referring to my comment
to Floyd Mayweather Jr., this is how you make an apology:
"I, Floyd Mayweather Jr. of Grand Rapids, Michigan, do hereby sincerely apologize with all my heart to Honorable Congressman Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao as well as the Filipino people for the racist and hate-filled remarks that i have posted on Ustream a few days ago. my hate-filled diatribe was unnecessary and totally uncalled for. it would seem that my ego has climbed to new heights that I am not aware of the effect my post would cause. i would also like to apologize to my fans, who has their share of criticism for supporting someone of low self-esteem and confidence as me."
"But now I promised that that would all change. I would show the world that not only I am a great boxer, but a human being who come to realize his mistakes and would try to rectify it. I would like to answer the calls for me and Congressman Pacquiaoto finally settle the score inside the squared circle, to match wits and skills in the art of the sweet science of boxing. I understand that he has an upcoming fight with Antonio Margarito this coming November 13 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, but I am now totally open and ready to face him should he decide to. We would be having having this fight, if not this year, then perhaps as early as April or May 2011."
"I would also like to extend my condolences to the entire Arum family for the tragic event that took place. nothing is more painful than for a parent to lose his child. I would also like to inform him that I would be interested in re-opening negotiations with the mega-fight with Mr. Pacquiao, so that I would give the boxing fans all around the world the one thing that I have selfishly denied them these past few years - to the fight that would finally decide who is the best pound for pound fighter in the world."
"once again I am truly sorry for my inadequate and immature actions, and hoping that in the long run, I would be able to earn once more the respect not only of the boxing fans, but people around the world. Thank you very much and MABUHAY ANG FILIPINAS!!!"
while it may be good that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. makes an apology however it lacks sincerity ... his apology only construed that he is doing it to looks good for the fans ...the apology is a fake and Floyd "The Coward" was actually acting ... there is no manly in what he did , so Needless for Acceptance for what is there to accept? The only relevance is the true color of Floyd, Jr. -- 1) it only shows that Floyd, Jr is indeed SCARED of Manny Pacquiao, 2.) it also shows how JEALOUS Floyd, Jr. of Manny Pacquiao, 3.) it also shows how UNEDUCATED Floyd, Jr., 4.) it also connotes that Floyd, Jr. is a RACIST, 5.) it also shows that Floyd, Jr. is a BITCH and he indeed said so that he is just having FUN, 6.) it even entails on how FRAGILE Floyd, Jr.... which could lead to the probability that Floyd, Jr. has already a HOLE in HIS HEAD, . . one flew back to the cuckoo's nest (?)
No way Floyd will succeed to his racism act. Filipino is a GLOBAL race.
if i were you floyd i will shut my big fuckin mouth and start doing the right thing for the good of the sports...no doubt you are a great prentender... prentending to be the best fighter but ducking the greatest fighter the PACMAN...
