Arvydas Sabonis released from hospital after heart attack

Former Portland Trail Blazers center, and new Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Arvydas Sabonis was released from a Lithuanian hospital on Wednesday after recovering from a heart attack suffered last week.

Sabonis, who returned to Portland in August for the first time since he retired from the NBA in 2003, was in the United States for a brief period of time to attend the Class of 2011 Hall of Fame induction ceremony. In his speech to accept his induction, an extremely modest Sabonis talked for just 48 seconds.

He then returned to Lithuania, his home country, where he suffered the heart attack last week while playing basketball. Following a week of recovery in the hospital, Sabonis was cleared to head home today.

"The doctors told me, 'You can’t smoke, you can't drink, you can't play basketball.' So of the things I like, only sex is left," Sabonis told reporters outside the hospital.
