Bob Arum, who it must be conceded is one of the two best 79 year old boxing promoters extant, thinks that disappointed Manny Pacquiao "suitor" Juan Manuel Marquez is either woefully misinformed or financially illiterate.
Juan Ma, the Mexican counterpuncher now making some waves as a boxing commentator in his homeland, was angling for a third bout against archrival Pacman. But Arum said he recieved much lower purse bids from both unbeaten Americans Andre Berto and bigger name Sugar Shane Mosley and so the Pinoy Idol will fight Mosley May 7 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
Here's what Crybaby Juan Ma told Jhonny Gonzalez of Boxingscene.com:
"We accepted everything they put on the table, including the weight, and then they were requesting that Golden Boy Promotions stays away from the negotiations. All of their conditions were accepted, but they refused. It was one thing after another....nothing but excuses," Marquez said.
In other words, Marquez said Arum's persistent stance that the fighter overpriced himself are wicked lies.
"I don't know what Marquez is talking about," Arum said Friday by phone from Las Vegas, "and neither does he.
"The package they (Golden Boy) wanted was more than double what Marquez got fighting Mayweather, a fight he lost. It was absolutely double that amount.
"For Floyd, Marquez earned $3.2 million plus a dollar for every PPV TV home above a million buys. That overage only got him another $20,000.
"So now, for Manny, they demanded a package of $5 million guaranteed and $5 more for every buy over 500,000 homes."
Believe Arum or not, he claims he's got it all writing, the back and forth with GBP. (By the bye, Juan Ma also picked up $600,00 when Mayweather came in two pounds heavier than agreed to.)
"This is irrefutable because it was all done on e-mail. There's no doubt here. This is not he said, she said, you said, it's all in the e-mails."
Finanical wizardry has never been part of the Marquez camp as evidenced by Arum's experience as the promoter for JMM back in 2006.
Marquez and manager-trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain were offered a career-high purse of $750,000 for a second bout against Pacman. The Mexicans demanded double that to match what they believed Pacman was being paid.
The rematch was not made and Juan Ma made a foolish trip for a foolish fight in a parking lot in Indonesia where, for a measly $50,000, he lost a 12 round unanimous decision to formidable homeboy Chris John.

Tickets for Mosley-Pacquiao will go on sale in about 10 days.
The press tour will include regular stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and will add San Francisco and--get this--a Washington, DC, presser hosted by Arum pal and Democratic Senate Whip Harry Reid.

Everything Arum has said lately is little more than B.S. spin to defend his decision to go with this farce of a Pac-Mosley matchup.
While Pactards are defending that fight, this is what Arum previously had to say about it:

As for his reason for not making the fight with Marquez, which is what true fans were demanding. This is what he had to say

He basically acknowledged that the Pac-Mosley fight is a mismatch but believes all the morons out there will still support it because you're all too stupid to know any better.
Richard Schaefer once said that the amount already includes the buy-out price of GBP by Top Rank. This is because Top Rank wanted GBP out of the promotional set-up of the fight.
Honestly, I don't know who's telling the truth, but surely, half-truths are the order of the day in this negotiation.

Truth be told, if Marquez really wanted to show the world that he is a worthy challenger to Manny Pacquiao and merits a second look after Pacquiao’s fight with Mosley, he should have picked Andre Berto or at the very least wait for the winner between Bradley and Alexander.
A victory over Berto, Bradley or Alexander, who are in their prime, would have added a tremendous boast on Marquez’ challenge against Pacquiao in 2011 particularly if he scores a compelling win over any of the three. Those guys are amongst the top guys in the 140-145 division.
But a fight with Morales? It’s nothing but a possible added “retirement fund” for both Marquez and Morales.
Sadly however, it may not generate enough to give both men a nice retirement. Marquez as we all know does not draw big. In his last fight with Michael Katsidis he drew less than 5000. And, who would like to see an old Eric Morales who is already “round in the middle” and visibly bogged down by the many wars he has gone through.
Marquez is only worth $10,000 and not worthy for million dollar fight.

What can you say about the Morales-Marquez fight? They are under the Golden boyPromotion. I think this is more garbage than Pacquiao vs. Mosley? If there is a fight of Mosley vs. Marquez this year, whom are you betting for? Are willing to bet your life for Marquez?
