Arts for ACT Gallery in the downtown Fort Myers River District will feature “Mojo Hands” in its Soho-style main gallery in February. It is a visionary celebration of America’s musical heritage.
The exhibition will pair the outsider Blues paintings of Lennie Jones with the Blues photography of George Mitchell. The two artists became friends last year when Mitchell purchased one of Jones' paintings, and Jones has painted several renditions of Mitchell’s photographs as well.
Also exhibiting in the office gallery during February is artist, author, mythologist and art historian, Dr. Kyra Belán. She will be showing selected works from her “Art, Myers, and Rituals” series. ” Kids with Cancer” will exhibit in the middle gallery room as a fundraiser for The Young Artists Awards. Four fantastic exhibits all at Arts for ACT Gallery.
A sampling of Jones' work is on exhibit at Arts for ACT year-round. Last February, he participated in a group show in which he was joined by Lisa Freidus in the middle gallery and William Hofer in the office gallery.
Some of Mitchell's work is presently on display in Arts for ACT. He was selected in December as one of the “Favorite Artists of ACT Gallery,” a group exhibit showcasing the art of ten professional artists: David Acevedo, Todd Babb, David Belling, Jo Anne Bedient, Stephen Gray-Blancett, Christina Jarmolinski, Leo Johnson, Mel Meo, George Mitchell, and Paul Rodino.
Arts for ACT Gallery is located at 2265 First Street in the River District. For more information about Jones' February exhibit with George Mitchell or the gallery, please visit Arts for ACT's website or call 239-337-5050.
