- "Little Black Dress" Sept. 28, 2012-Jan. 27, 2013, SCAD Museum of Art, 601 Turner Blvd., Savannah, Georgia. "Little Black Dress," curated by SCAD trustee and Vogue Contributing Editor André Leon Talley, charts the historic and contemporary significance of a singular sartorial phenomenon. Featuring approximately 80 garments from a canon of modern fashion designers, the exhibition includes contributions from veteran designers and those of the International Best-Dressed List such as Marc Jacobs, Miuccia Prada and Renée Zellweger. Sponsored by M·A·C Cosmetics. The exhibition is free with SCAD Museum of Art admission.
- "Stretching the Limits: Fibers in Contemporary Painting" Oct. 22, 2012-Feb. 3, 2013, SCAD Museum of Art, 601 Turner Blvd., Savannah, Georgia. "Stretching the Limits: Fibers in Contemporary Painting" highlights artists who are exploring fibers-based media within the language of painting. This group exhibition broadens the dialogue of contemporary painting practices by showcasing the ways in which formal considerations such as color, texture and composition are created with thread, fabric, clothing and sculptural manipulations of canvas. Artists include: Ghada Amer, Tom Burr, Kendell Carter, Nick Cave, Angelo Filomeno, Vibha Galhotra, Sam Gilliam, Sheila Hicks, Emil Lukas, Elaine Reichek, Amanda Ross-Ho, Analia Saban and Shinique Smith. - "Addio del Passato": Oct. 27, 2012-Jan. 27, 2013. Yinka Shonibare, MBE exhibition:, SCAD Museum of Art, 601 Turner Blvd., Savannah, Georgia. This exhibition features photographs from Shonibare's allegorical "Fake Death Pictures" series, sculptures, and the film "Addio Del Passato" ("So Closes My Sad Story") that collectively explore themes of desire, love, repression and power. - "Past Within the Present: Images of Richard Arnold Hall": Nov. 7, 2011-April 30, 2013. Adam Kuehl exhibition: Arnold Hall, 1810 Bull St., Savannah, Georgia. Adam Kuehl (B.F.A., photography, 2005; M.F.A. photography student) presents documentary-style photographs of the hallways and classrooms of SCAD's Arnold Hall. Exhibited within the recently preserved building, his images capture moments of warm natural light flooding into the then decaying building. The photographs in "Past Within the Present: Images of Richard Arnold Hall" resonate with a poetic sense of resurgence and renewal providing a hauntingly beautiful exchange between living in the present and visualizing the past. - "Pretty in Ink": Nov. 8, 2012-Jan. 27, 2013, Pinnacle Gallery, 320 E. Liberty St., Savannah, Georgia. The SCAD exhibitions department presents "Pretty in Ink," recent prints and works on paper that exemplify the dynamism, creativity and originality of women artists working in the printmaking departments at SCAD Atlanta and SCAD Savannah. - "Belo Horizonte Project": Nov. 19, 2012-March 3, 2013. Damián Ortega exhibition: SCAD Museum of Art, 601 Turner Blvd., Savannah, Georgia. The SCAD Museum of Art presents multimedia artist Damián Ortega's "Belo Horizonte Project," featured in its entirety for the first time. Inspired by the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte's commitment to the marriage of urban and environmental conditions, this installation of highly polished stainless steel cubes references urban architecture's ability to reflect and be reflective of the surrounding environment in which it is situated.
