Arts, crafts and artisans at Gallery Underground (Photos)

New art and artists with new work shine through in the Blue Studios and spotted throughout Gallery Underground.

Theresa Wells Stifel, owner of Stifel & Capra and a practicing artist continues to refine her fiber art and painting combination that feature her brand of interpretation that is modern folk art. How does she find time to sew?

In the Blue Studios, I finally met Dennis Crayon. Here is an example of success, an artist with nationwide experience and gallery representation. His work is collectible as it will be memorable for generations.

He says his work is unique, generally through his combining childhood experiences using his exceptional painting abilities. I elaborate that he toys with color, the presence, the absence, the juxtaposition as well as object repetition. Most of all, he is a jolly soul and his work conveys that personality.

Bio

Dennis Crayon has been painting since he was very young. Dennis took private lessons in high school; He got his BFA in Graphic Design from the State University of New York at Buffalo and later as an adult went to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for painting. As he has grown older his work has gotten more precise Dennis considers himself a contemporary realist.

As a still life painter, Dennis works with oils on canvas and panels, using color and position to convey contemporary composition, combined with a classical painting technique. Each of his paintings features extreme attention to detail, especially the effect of light as it hits objects. I recognize the value of craft in my painting and continually work on my technique and style.

In his current still life’s Dennis is combining objects from his youth along with contemporary object with the hope that the combination of these elements will give a unique vision or view point

Dennis is an active member of Washington, D.C.’s artistic community. His work has been shown locally at Gallery West, Spectrum Gallery, Light Street Gallery, and the Art League of Virginia. He also has had work exhibited in Boston and San Antonio.”
