Artomatic Takes Flight show runs from March 3 to June 25, 2011

Would you expect to see art at the airport? Most of us struggling through a long security line probably wouldn’t think so. However, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport will be featuring a special exhibition of original works by 70 D.C. area artists, organized by Artomatic.

Artomatic Takes Flight features multi- dimensional artworks by members from all over the Washington-area creative community. The non-juried show maintains the spirit of Artomatic, as all artwork was accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The show runs from March 3 to June 25, 2011 with an opening reception on Thursday, March 10 from 6 to 8 pm at Reagan National Airport, in the corridor connecting to Terminal A. The public is encouraged to drop by and meet the artists.

Reagan National is excited about the show. “Performing and visual arts programs are important for both airports. Concourses B and C were designed and built to be able to host visual art elements such as sculpture, mosaics and other types of 2 and 3 D artwork,” said Courtney Mickalonis, of the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority. The Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority Arts Program has been running at both airports (IAD and DCA) for several years. Currently, the work by  the Maryland Institute College of Art is displayed at the airport. Prior to this, works of members of the Torpedo Factory Art Center were on exhibition.
