When Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she "would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever" she could have no idea how far that promise would reach into the hearts of the world around her. In 1982, Nancy's promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and one of the boldest communities making the "biggest impact in the fight against breast cancer." Fundraisers like Komen Race For the Cure have helped to invest "almost $2 billion to the cause of ending breast cancer in the United States and throughout the world."
In order to expand fundraising opportunities as well as awareness, our local Komen Sacramento Valley affiliate has created a new and exciting fundraiser centered around the visual arts. On Oct, 4, 2013 the second annual "Artists For the Cure" event will take place and feature an art auction, live music by Flamenco Guitarist Philippe Geoffrion, appetizers, and cocktails as well as an opportunity to meet and chat with many of the donating artists.
"Artists for the Cure" participating artists are provided a 10"x10" wood panel to work their magic on using a broad range of mediums from acrylics, oils, pencil, collage, photography and more. These are artists dedicated to their craft as well as making a difference. The collective of artists hold dozens of award winning merits that make the art auction a must-do for collectors as well as Komen supporters. Participants include Laurelin Gilmore, Jared Konopitski, Sherrell Cisco, Dawn Blanchfield, Lauren Margaux, Stephen Halpin, Kathy Blackburn, Jill Allyn Stafford, Alex M. Jimenez, William Ishmael, Gayle Rappaport-Weiland, Maren Conrad, Nicole Roberts, Tim Collom, Lala Ortiz, Eileen Downes, Melissa Uroff, Gini Crepps, Joan Carroll Kudin, Susan Raines, Sheri Kindsvater, Daniel Mendoza, and Jennifer Hines.
The 2012 first annual "Artists For the Cure" drew in bids between $40-60 with 20 donated panels and approximately 130 tickets sold. Organizers anticipate an increase in bids as the second year attracts an even larger crowd and more art with over 25 pieces being completed and donated. The caliber of artists will make the silent auction an exciting opportunity to collect a one-of-a-kind piece while enjoying an evening of good cause and fun.Tickets are $25 each or $35 VIP and are currently on sale at the Komen site here. The event takes place at Elliot Fouts Gallery from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at 1831 P St., Sacramento. Elliot Fouts Gallery will also be graciously donating 10% of all gallery purchases during the evening.
