At age 67, Bob Seger and his Silver Bullet Band continue to be one of the most iconic and relevant Midwestern rock bands in America. The group, from the Detroit area, has been together since 1973. Seger enjoyed a successful regional run with other incarnations and as a solo artist before the Silver Bullet Band. Since the band formed; they have released hit single after hit single for what is now their fortieth year. Their blend of blues rock with keyboards and occasional horns, combined with Seger's raspy voice and his talent as a first class lyricist have been a true recipe for success. The band still tours to this day with a full set of classic music.
One unique thing about this band is their appeal to different generations. Scan the crowd at a Seger show and you will see ages ranging from baby boomers to adolescents. When music is timeless, that tends to happen, and when your music is that timeless there seems to be no reason to stop playing it until you no longer can do it justice. I saw the band perform in Columbus' Schottenstein Center in 2007, and even in his sixties, they played a twenty plus song set that bands of today couldn't dream of attempting. The 2013 Rock and Roll Never Forgets tour kicks off on Wednesday in Toledo, with another Huntington Center performance set for Friday evening. The only other Ohio date is April 9th in Dayton at the Nutter Center. Tickets for the Ohio visits can be purchased from Ticketmaster. While they aren't visiting Columbus, the trek north to Toledo or west to Dayton will be worth your time and money if you can make the trip.
