Artist Interview with Brook Pifer (Part 3)

ND: Describe your nightmare shoot.

BP: I don't want to go the BS way and say there is no such thing.  Heck, "stuff" does happen.  But I get paid to solve said "stuff".  My take on anything not going according to my obsessive compulsively laid out plans, adapt quickly.  Nightmares can 99.99999% of the time be prevented. When they can't you just have to think on your feet, conjure up some ingenuity and save the day. Then you will be perceived as Superman (or woman) with a camera.

ND: What are your thoughts on impossible standards of beauty in the media today?

BP: Impossible beauty standards aren't going anywhere and use of retouching is a given.  Do people take things to extremes?  Sure.  I think common sense can trump overuse and comparisons any day.  There is a trend towards realism and inner beauty.  I think the Dove campaign was a perfect example of how an evolution of industry standards is not only refreshing but welcomed.

"I will say this, it kills me to see a guy in a band take more time on his hair than I do. Or is that saying something about my grooming instead? Ha! Oh well..."

ND: You have worked with some celebrities, namely Akon,  Have you come across any celebrity like attitude?

BF: Heck the bigger celebrities have such a great attitude and are a pleasure to work with.   I will say this, it kills me to see a guy in a band take more time on his hair than I do.  Or is that saying something about my grooming instead?  Ha! Oh well....
