ArtFest Fort Myers played to monster crowds over the course of its 3-day run earlier this month. The newly-completed river basin certainly drew some curious spectators to the city's premier art festival, but it was by no means the center of attention or even a distraction. The main focus of the throngs of art enthusiasts was on the art, and ArtFest has now released the long-awaited results of this judged outdoor art show.
Mixed media 2D artist Carolina Cleere received Best of Show, while the following artists received first and second place honors in their respective categories:
- 1st Place 2D: Katie Wilson, Mixed Media 2D
- 1st Place 3D: Michael Schwegmann, Ceramics
- 2nd Place 2D:Tanya Doskova, Digital
- 2nd Place 3D:Ronald Linton, Jewelry
Awards of Merit were also conferred on John Gibb (drawing), Marius Moore (photography), Tom Wargin (sculpture), John Maurer (painting), Flora Zarate (fiber), Lewis Tardy (sculpture), Garry Seidel (photography), Chas Rowe (painting), Robert Kastrinos (ceramics) and Richard Skelton (sculpture).
More than 200 artists participated in ArtFest 2013, displaying paintings in oil and acrylic, watercolors, drawings in pastels, charcoal, pen and ink and graphite, 2D and 3D mixed media works and collages, photography and digital artworks, bronze and metal sculpture, wood working, ceramics, pottery, glass fusion and glass art, hand-crafted art jewelry, leather works and other artworks arranged artistically in the white canvas tents that straddled the centerline of Edwards Drive.
