In our back yard there is a collective of hard working artisans creating masterpieces we can bring home and savor, they are Pierce Bros Coffee.
Darren, was the first to get the coffee bug. While working at Kuletos, the landmark Italian restaurant in San Francisco, he made friends with a master roaster and a new world opened to him. In 1994 he returned to Western, MA and open a cafe with his brother Sean. The two brother's learned the coffee trade from the ground up, roasting beans and defining their own signature styles of coffee. They ventured out into the greater world establishing contacts with local growers for the raw products and within the industry to keep up with better ways of creating a sensational coffee.
One cafe in Shelburne led to a couple more in surrounding towns. At the same time Sean and Darren's propriety blends were taking off as a wholesale side to their business developed. They worked tirelessly to get their name out. All along the eastern seaboard cafe's, restaurants, specialty shops, supermarkets, hospitals, colleges and offices started to look to the Pierce Bros Coffee to service their coffee needs. The private label and fund-raising programs allow a great deal of flexibility for organizations wishing to think outside of the box.
Eighteen years after starting the company, focus has rested on the wholesale trade. While many mourned the closing of Java Hut, the shift means more people have the opportunity to enjoy their incredible coffee. While most are familiar with the mark of quality kosher, organic and fair trade brings, few understand what air roasting means. "Our convection hot air roasting floats each bean on a bed of hot air. This improves the coffees flavor by whisking away the chaff, and eliminating any burned particles. Most coffee is roasted in a steel drum, directly in contact with the burning metal, and sometimes it even catches on fire! In our roaster, the beans are tossed continually in the hot air, roasting evenly on all sides and guaranteeing a consistent roast every time."
It is true, these coffee are devine and decadent. They are not bitter, just rich and flavorful. Darren, Sean, and the hardworking team that makes up Pierce Bros is on a mission to deliver the best cup of Java in our neighborhood and beyond.

Thanks for sharing! We're loyal Pierce Bros fans in this household. Hearty coffee, 100% Fair Trade, 100% organic. My only complaint: packages of ground Fogbuster are constantly sold out at our local Big Y and the beans go too fast at Randall's Farm.
