Artisan of Forms is one of the newest "Theros" spoilers revealed today Sept. 2, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set in an article by Mike Cannon on DailyMtg.com.
Artisan of Forms - 1U
Creature - Human Wizard (Rare)
Heroic - Whenever you cast a spell that targets Artisan of Forms, you may have Artisan of Forms become a copy of target creature and gain this ability.
Cannon points out that Artisan of Forms is the exact opposite of Phantasmal Image, needing you to target it in order to Clone a creature. Artisan of Forms may not be as surprising to your opponent compared to Sakashima's Stundent, however that doesn't mean it isn't tricky to play with. Artisan of Forms is much easier to cast than Lazav, Dimir Mastermind and you won't be reliant upon your opponent's graveyard to make it change shape.
One of the most interesting things about Artisan of Forms is that you're able to play mind games with your adversary. If you haven't tapped any of your lands and attack (or likewise hold it back to block), you'll be able to change Artisan of Forms into any other creature during combat. What your rival may not know is that you're holding three lands in your hand and can't change Artisan of Forms. Will they call your bluff?
It's important to note that Artisan of Forms is also both a Human and a Wizard, two powerful creature types to make a tribal deck around.
How will you use Artisan of Forms?
