Fans of the rock band Artifas, didn't let a few inches of snow stop them from seeing their favorite up- and-coming band. Fans packed Chucks Steakhouse in Akron (Ohio) Sunday for a late night concert. Artifas, from Memphis, Tennessee is currently on tour, and was playing alongside Canton's own metal band Padded Room. This marks the bands second appearance in the area in less than three months. Sunday's show didn't really go off without a hitch, due to some minor sound problems, but Artifas, not wanting to let down their new fans, kept the show going like true rock warriors. Getting the night starting with their bass pounding tracks "Enemy Inside" and "Crawl," found on the bands debut CD Enemy Inside EP Vol 1. (2013).
The EP (Vol1.) is filled with hits that showcase catchy songs, that are undeniably addictive, with memorable hooks and lyrics. Songs like "Blame" and their latest single "Suffocate." These songs are edgy and pack a huge punch backed by a high-energy performance. The band's lead singer, Scottie Somerville, his voice is ripe and powerful as he belts out the rock tracks. With precise musicianship Artifas, is all about the music, though not all the songs are in your face. Artifas, gives fans a perfect balance of up beat and lively tempo songs, followed by a few toned- down ballads such as "Broken Wings" and the band's cover of "A Kiss From A Rose" by Seal. A strong point in the set is their spontaneity to include the audience, making them feel part of the set.
It's always refreshing when a new rock band comes on the scene and blows you away with their songs and stage presence. The guys that make up Artifas, are Scottie Somerville (lead singer), Cody Criswell (guitar), Ben Walsh (guitar), Chris Dildine (bass), and TJ Burgess (drums). Long time friends, that grew up around the same area, all coming from different musical back grounds seem to come together and fit perfectly. While they have come together easily, their road to music stardom hasn't been without some bumps. The band scraped together all the money they had to get their CD made by a well noted musician in the industry, only to have him take their money and leave them without a finish product.
Thankfully, they were able to partner up with Blake Allison of Devour the Day and Kevin Jardine of Slaves On Dope to help them get their CD finished. The band is going to be releasing Vol 2 later this year and will also start writing material for a new CD. Not everything has been bad on the road to success. They've been able to gain celebrity status in their hometown, as well as on the road. Secondly, they already have some memorable off- stage antics under their belts and have had the opportunity to play with some of today's biggest rock bands such as All That Remains, Shinedown, and Hell Yeah just to name a few.
Life has been pretty good so far for the boys in Artifas. If you've started a list of bands to see this year, make sure you add Artifas to it. You'll be glad you did. The guys are both gracious and humbled to have fan's support. For tour and merch info be sure to follow them on their media sites.
