Science and art are both an act of creation and discovery. They both rely on knowledge but go beyond the mere utilization of facts. Creativity, the womb from which science and art are born, in contingent on the application and connection between pieces of information. Therefore, facts are not enough to produce creative things.
Science is seen as an arsenal of knowledge, a vessel from which facts are gained. However, science is just as much an art as painting is. Science is the chisel from which a scientist sculpts the truth of the universe. He whittles away the misinformation and misunderstanding and looks beyond the damaged or unsure surface to expose the truth. This relies not only on an understanding of the laws of the universe, but also on being able to make connections between threads of knowledge from various fields and create something new out of that. This relies on creativity and is an art unto itself.
Art is not always seen as a science, but even the abstract follows the laws of logic. The most abstract painting follows basic ideas, even if it is only about perception and how the brain processes information. Art, then, is the conduit through which science can be seen, albeit in a way that may not seem superficially logical and sequential and analytical.
However, science and art are both of the same heart, though of different veins. They share the same source: a desire for understanding, though they may stretch out to different places and run in different direction. In the end, however, they always come back together at the heart, feeding, and being fed, by that shared source.
