The last time Lange appeard on Late Night was August 2009, just a few months before the Howard Stern Show co-host shocked millions of fans with a gruesome suicide attempt by stabbing. Lange spent 18 months in recovery and rehabilitation before he came out of hiding in July 2011. Lange recently landed a multi-million dollar three year deal hosting a late night sports/comedy talk show with comedian Nick DiPaolo.

Lange has made appearances on several comedy podcasts over the past few months where he's talked about his experiences in psychiatric wards and drug rehabilitation centers, but Friday will be the first time Lange has appeared on TV since the January 2010 incident that nearly put out his fi-ya for good.
Letterman is a pretty huge booking, but it's still not the ultimate interview that HSS fans have been waiting to hear--that would come from Lange sitting down face to face with the King of All Media himself. Howard Stern has repeatedly stated that he will not have Artie Lange back on his Sirius XM radio show to discuss his abrupt departure from the show. Stern states that he is too concerned about Lange's potentially fragile mental state to risk exposing him to a "tell all" in studio interview.
Lange will appear on the Late Show on October 14th along with comedian Eddie Brill and the band Beirut.
