Skateboarder/martial artist/radio show host Jason Ellis made an impression on The Howard Stern Show’s edgiest co-host, comedian Artie Lange. The Australian skateboarder-turned-ultimate-fighter-turned radio show host turned out to have quite a bit in common with Howard Stern’s own Artie Lange.
Things got especially interesting when Jason Ellis revealed his own history with heroin addiction. “I chased the dragon for about six months and it was awful,” said Jason Ellis, relaying his memories from a darker time. Jason Ellis admitted that he had allowed a prostitute to inject him with heroin while on a self-destructive binge.
Artie Lange seemed more than a little bit relieved to have an in-studio guest that could relate to his struggle with overcoming heroin addiction. Maybe Artie Lange's just really needed someone to "talk smack" with. “It’s like they say in that Lynyrd Skynyrd song,” said Artie Lange. “It’s a needle and a spoon and a trip to the moon. That’s what it was like for me--but when you come back from the moon, it’s hell.”
Artie Lange and Jason Ellis also bonded on regarding their relationships with their fathers. Artie Lange frequently talks about his father on The Howard Stern Show, and most of his friends and fans agree that his father’s death is one of the reasons that Artie Lange turned to heroin. Jason Ellis, who also lost his father at a young age, agreed.
Artie Lange is notorious for raking guests across the coals when they’re not keeping up with the pace of the program—case in point, his infamous appearance on “Joe Buck Live.” This time though, Artie Lange gave the relatively obscure in-studio guests one of his greatest compliments. “I can’t listen to your show because it’s during Bubba the Love Sponge and Bubba’s my favorite, but I’m going to tape your show now and listen to it to.”
So it seems that Artie Lange has a new pal at Sirius XM satellite radio. What’s in store for Jason Ellis next? Let’s just hope he doesn’t ask Artie Lange to lend him any money.
