Artie Lange suicide attempt leaves Howard Stern speechless

Howard Stern is speechless.

Thursday's announcement that cherished Howard Stern Show sidekick Artie Lange's hospitalization was the result of a violent suicide attempt has Howard Stern without words for the first time in Howard Stern Show history.

“I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to say,” said a clearly choked up Howard Stern after trying to read the 'Page Six' story about Artie Lange's suicide attempt aloud and then giving up after the first sentence.

On 9/11, Howard Stern stayed on the air and reported live when the World Trade Center towers fell. The Howard Stern Show 9/11 broadcast has become a legendary part of Howard Stern Show history because of the King of All Media's ability to narrate the most horrific event in modern American history and act as an emotional container for a nation in crisis.

The most horrific event in Howard Stern Show history is a totally different story.

Robin Quivers acknowledged that the Howard Stern Show is often criticized for the team's scathing commentary on the hottest celebrity gossip topics of the day.

"This is what it's like when it happens to you," said Robin Quivers.

Howard Stern still pulled off a full length show on Thursday after the Artie Lange announcement--a show that will doubtless end up featured on one of the future History of Howard Stern retrospectives as the Howard Stern Show's darkest day.

Well written and not the least bit trite. As a fan of Artie and the show, I appreciate that.

He will be missed from the show. I hope that we will see or hear from him again some day soon.

Artie... you have plenty of people that support you as an individual.

I hope Artie gets the help he so much needs. We'll all miss Artie on the show, but Howard's reaction to the page Six story proves that there are things bigger & more important than "the show". God bless, get well in all ways, and "GO FISHNG".

Artie Lang is a funny guy but breakdown after breakdown and the drug abuse and suicide attempts after everything Howard has done for this guy is rediculous! He is in a great position financially because of Howard and surpassed all of his dreams and is one of those people that is never satisfied. It is time to fire Artie Lang and move on. He did it to hisself.
