Artie Lange opened up about his struggles with addiction and recovery in a big way on Thursday's Joe Matarese podcast, but he's saving the most salacious details about that night in January for a possible future Howard Stern Show appearance.

Matarese interviewed Artie Lange in the Hoboken, New Jersey apartment where Lange attempted suicide by stabbing himself nine times with a 13-inch kitchen knife in January 2010. Lange was discovered by his mother, rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency vascular surgery and survived.
Thursday's interview was the first time Lange has spoken at length about the18 months that following the attempt--and how he found his way back to sobriety and mental health. Matarese warned listeners at the beginning of the podcast that Lange wouldn't be telling the story from "that night":
“There’s gonna be some topics that he wants to save for the Howard Stern Show which I totally told him that’s fine. I’m a huge Howard fan."

Since Howard Stern Show fans had born daily witness to the effects Lange's harrowing decline into heroin addiction for years, the violent nature of Lange's suicide attempt became all the more horrifying (and fascinating). For those that Lange entertained for years during the most miserable hours of their commute--it was like the attempt had happened to a close, beloved friend. Howard Stern Show fans who remember the morning that the news of Lange's attempt broke have been dreaming about the day he'd walk back into the studio in one piece for a long, long time.
Stern reacted with discomfort to the news of Lange's return to radio during Monday's satellite radio broadcast, even (jokingly?) remarking that he'd been avoiding Lange's calls.

It's hard to imagine Stern won't ever extend Lange the invitation to come back on the air--at least for one final appearance.
Forget Lady Gaga and Paul McCartney. The "Return of Artie Lange" interview is Howard Stern is now the ultimate "get" for HSS fans.
