Artcenter Traverse City and the Botanic Garden at the Historic Barns Park invite artists to celebrate art in the unique setting and context of the community educational garden in Traverse City, Michigan.
The theme for the show is a liberal and open representation of art and the garden. An artist can present art based on generic garden themes or those specific to the site of the new botanic garden on the property of the old State Hospital in Traverse City, now part of the Historic Barns Park project.
From meditation labyrinths to Japanese stone gardens, plants and gardens play an important part in our well-being. A garden might serve as a tranquil retreat or private escape from the demands of everyday life. The beauty of flowers can lift spirits, while pulling weeds can be a great release for stress and excess energy. Watching a butterfly or frog may be a reminder of cycles in nature. For centuries, human beings have found ways to relate to nature. For this exhibition, we want your unique take on the theme of gardens to share representations, abstractions, feelings, or moods. Whatever you choose, make sure you give it your own fresh perspective.
