Art in the Street: upcoming exhibit at the MOCA

The Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art opens the highly anticipated "Art in the Streets" exhibit this Sunday, April 17th. Featuring four decades of work by fifty legendary international and local artists, this exhibition includes installations from Banksy, Swoon, Shepard Fairey, Margaret Kilgallen, Chaz Bojorquez, and more.

Telling the compelling story of street art and graffiti transforming into a globally established art movement, "Art in the Street" provides historical context, examines innovations, and surveys the cultural impact of street art. In specific, there will be an emphasis on Los Angeles Cholo graffiti and Dogtown skateboard culture (also see graphic design article: "The typography of LA Cholo Graffiti"). Additionally, a section of the exhibit highlighting 1980's New York artists features work of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring.
