This weekend, Deep Ellum, that quirky neighborhood east of downtown Dallas, presents its signature event - the Deep Ellum Arts Festival. Known for crowded streets filled with works from 200 juried decorative and visual artists, the fair is a favorite of town and burb dwellers alike.

Artist booths line streets in the Deep Ellum Entertainment District just east of Dallas.

Participating artists from across the country include painters, sculptors, muralists, jewelers, photographers and apparel designers who entice visitors with an eclectic array of creativity.

Not into art? Not to worry. The festival is as much a celebration of musical entertainment as it is of art.

On five different stages, over 100 bands, vocalists, songwriters and performance artists will engage visitors with original music, while strolling musicians will perform throughout the crowd.

Hungry? Food for every palette will be available from Deep Ellum restaurants within the Crowdus Street “village.” Concessionaires will offer a slew of street food including turkey legs, barbeque, corny dogs, Mexican fare, Cajun eats, Italian delights, desserts and even a few healthy items. Beer and wine will also be available.

While the festival is pet-friendly, it isn’t child-friendly, and parents should not expect activities geared toward youngsters.

Head on down to the “hood” this weekend and enjoy diverse art, interesting music and great weather.
