The Art of Living Foundation recently presented Seattle’s first ever Yoga Rave at Seattle’s premier movie and event production facility Fremont Studios. I attended as a curious observer eventually found myself mesmerized by the work of the last artist electronic fusion master Karsh Kale. The Yoga Rave is a cultural trend combining yoga and rave, and it promises to provide something more than either could alone.
The evening began at 9 p.m. with meditation followed by yoga stretching and the DJ presentation of Seattle’s Miguel Alvarado. Many in the crowd of several hundred demonstrated their exotic yoga poses during Alvarado’s stint running the sound and enormous visuals projected on screen in the vast Fremont Studios, which was the perfect venue for body shaking music and captivating visuals.
When Kale took to the stage, however, everything changed. He immediately took control of the room and began building the feeling with fascinating “spiritual” visuals and music. It was not long before most people were caught in a trance of sound and site that continued until 2 a.m.
A most unique experience presented by a group that I know does excellent work. Although I have never taken any of the Art of Living classes, I know many people I highly respect who have made Art of Living a pillar of their spiritual practice.
