There is a very romantic evening idyll for true art lovers on Valentine’s Day this year. That special day will also be the gala opening and preview of the 2013 Palm Springs Fine Art Fair. If someone special in your life loves art, its will be the ideal destination to show how much you care -- and a lot more beautiful than a box of chocolates.
Valentine’s Day also heralds the start of Palm Springs Modernism Week. There are actually so many programs and events that the “Modernism Week” is now eleven days long. All twenty programs on the February 14 opening and the opening gala are already sold out. The Modernism Show and Sale starts February 15 and continues through February 18. The m modern Gallery Reception will host a reception the evening of February 15.
Most tours of individual mid-Century landmarks are already sold out, although there are a few tickets available during the Academy Awards festivities on February 24. But there will still be lots to do and see during Modernism Week. A vintage car exposition will start at noon on February 18. Every morning, the Palm Springs Historical Society is guiding walking tours. On February 23, there will be a comprehensive look at Modernism in a one day program at the Palm Springs Art Museum. The keynote speaker is Kimberli Meyer, director of the MAK Center’s Schindler House in Los Angeles. The executive director of the museum at the Frank Lloyd Wright designed landmark Fallingwater in Pennsylvania, will also present.
The Palm Springs Fine Art Fair will take place at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The February 15 evening event will continue the momentum of photo l.a. with as special panel devoted to the photography of American icons from the history of cinema. The Los Angeles Art Association will also spotlight leading edge contemporary art from the Creative Capital of the World.
