On Saturday, May 10, Art Lab opened its annual student show during a fun opening reception, showing interested Staten Island art enthusiasts just what its student body can do. The show which opened to the public today will be on view at the Staten Island art school nestled in Snug Harbor Cultural and Botanical Center in Livingston through June 22. Art Lab’s Facebook page had this to say: “On Saturday, May 10th, Art Lab's Annual Student Show 2014 had its opening reception from 2-4pm. We had over 150 pieces by our students on display from all ages, using all mediums! Thank you to all who are participating! The show will be up until June 22nd, be sure to have a look!”

Art Lab holds classes for adults of all ages, youth classes and workshops. For more information about the school visit“Art Lab offers adult classes in a wide range of artistic mediums and methods. Classes range in skill level from beginner to advanced. Examples of classes include: Ceramics, Drawing, Mosaics, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Watercolor. Classes for adults typically run 2.5 to 3 hours and most adult classes run 8-10 weeks depending on the semester. Small class size insures individual attention and guidance,” added the web site.

With school ending soon, interested children and teens and their parents should explore the options available this summer, including the scholarship program that offers corporate funding for the bulk of the tuition. The summer studio scholarship in painting and drawing is being offered to those that show an affinity and interest in art, and Art Lab will accept application now through June 1, 2014.

Camp Picasso

Camp Picasso begins July 1. Added “Children enjoy hands-on activities in drawing, painting and sculpture. Various techniques of fine and applied arts are explored as children create exciting art projects! Age groups are between 6-8 and 9-12.” Morning sessions run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and afternoon sessions run between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.Full day sessions run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Camp Picasso meets every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in two-week sessions
beginning July 8. The summer camp offers one two-week session costing $180 plus $15 registration for half the day. A full day session costs $360 plus a $15 registration fee and a special one week session is available July 1,2 & 3. A half day camp costs $90 plus a $15 registration fee and a full day session is offered at $180 plus a $15 registration fee.
