From now until October 27, some great art work from students of all ages (teens to adults) will be on display at Art Lab, in the heart of Snug Harbor Cultural & Botanical Center and Garden. Many of the 150 pieces of art work on display were created during Art Lab’s six week graduate-level summer intensive program, which I was lucky enough to take part in. For more on getting involved in next summer's 2014 program visit http://www.artlab.info.
“(art Lab) offers the opportunity to gain knowledge, develop new and existing skills and explore career options under the supervision and guidance of professional artists and university level instructors,” added a spokesperson for Art Lab. Lessons concentrate on drawing, painting, sculpture, and art history. Studio work is supplemented by visits to professional studios, galleries and museums, according to the Art Lab web site. I was lucky enough to participate in this six-week summer program, and I found the experience rewarding and gratifying. Even better, the Art Lab show of summer art work on display in the gallery is an opportunity to see the work on display from the prolific artistic summer.
“This flagship program accommodates 40 students divided equally between three age groups: 13 to 15 year olds, 16 to 18 years olds, and college students and adults,” added the Art Lab web site.” Many activities are intergenerational, allowing for a natural exchange of acquired knowledge and energy. The training offered in extended studio sessions is equivalent to university level classes and exceeds the studio time available in college courses, even for the 13 year-olds.”
