Labor Day signals the advent of football season, cooler temperatures and impending return of art fair and festival season, which gets under way in October and launches into high gear in November.
It all starts on October 12 in the downtown Fort Myers River District. That's when the Fort Myers Downtown Saturday Art Fair takes place under the awnings of the galleries, shops and offices that border First Avenue, just steps from the waters of the Caloosahatchee River in the completely refurbished and restored downtown Fort Myers River District. With wide sidewalks, majestic palms and old-time charm, this bricked thoroughfare is ideally-suited to an outdoor art fair. Over three dozen accomplished artists treat River District art lovers to affordable original works of art in oil, acrylic, watercolor and mixed media, photography, prints and giclees, wire and metal sculpture, ceramics, hand-crafted jewelry of every imaginable kind and composition, designer wear and unique artsy gifts of all kinds.
On October 26, Naples Artcrafters returns its monthly fine art and craft show to Naples Cambier Park. The Artcrafters have been committed for more than 45 years to promoting excellence in arts and crafts and to supporting established artists, craftspersons and students by providing a venue for the display and sale of their work in a beautiful setting. At their shows, they present a wide array of artistic genres, styles and media, including paintings in oils, acrylics and watercolors, drawings in pen and ink and pencil, pastels, scissors art, multi-media and collage, photography, ceramics, jewelry (including metalsmithing, metal clays, lapidary and beading), sculptures, pottery, clay, stained glass and fused glass, wood turning and carving, basket weaving, and more.
On November 2, Art in the Park returns to downtown Naples. Now celebrating 57 years as Naples' oldest art fair, Art in the Park features Naples Art Association members showcasing a variety of original paintings, photographs, unique décor, wearables, collectibles and gifts. Nestled on Park Street just to the west of The von Liebig Art Center, this juried art fair is held the first Saturday of the month November through April. Each art fair features hands-on-art experiences and live demonstrations from skilled artists.
The following Saturday, November 9, the Naples Artcrafters Fine Art & Craft Show returns to Cambier Park and the Fort Myers Downtown Saturday Art Fair resurfaces on First Street in the Fort Myers River District.
The Estero Fine Art Show™ takes place at Miromar Outlet Mall the following weekend, November 16 & 17, 2013. This juried art show brings high quality artists from around the globe and top notch local artists to sell their original and personally handmade art work. The event occurs on the southeast side of Miromar Outlets, near the intersection of Corkscrew and Ben Hill Griffin Roads. The art fair’s main focus is visual arts and community enrichment. Many of the nation’s best artists exhibit at this show. Event hours on Saturday and Sunday are 10-5 daily, and both the event and parking are free. In addition to fine art, there is great food and free live entertainment from world-class favorites.
The Sanibel Masters Art Festival has been a Sanibel Island Thanksgiving weekend tradition for 21 years. It showcases paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor, drawings and pastels, 2D and 3D mixed media and collages, photography and digital art, woodworking, sculpture, ceramics, glass, handmade Tiffany Style Lamps, fiber art, and jewelry produced by 75 artists and artisans from around the country. The festival is held on the grounds of The Sanibel Community House on Periwinkle Drive, Sanibel’s main street. The Sanibel Community House has been an island fixture since 1927 and touts itself as The Gathering Place on Sanibel Island. But Boulderbrook Productions has a little twist in store for festival-goers. This one takes place on Friday and Saturday, November 29 & 30, so both the artists and the art lovers still have Sunday to enjoy the island, the weather and their purchases and sales.
