If you have not yet made plans to go to Art Basel Miami and the many other art fairs in Miami this week, there are still last minute packages that will get you there. And if you are planning to stay at home, social media is bringing highlights to fans wherever they are.
Los Angeles artists feature prominently. When the Art Basel Conversations series begins Thursday, December 5, artist Doug Aitken will exchange viewpoints with Michelle Kuo, the Editor of Artforum from New York. Aitken's "Station to Station" project has become a social media sensation. At the concluding Basel Conversation on December 10, Los Angeles artist Cory Arcangel will join other emerging talents to discuss the influence that innovation in technology and digital media is having on working artists.
A week of special events for Art Miami began Sunday, with “The Art of Fashion Show.” ™ This lively event showed how art concepts lend themselves to inspiration for fashions and beautification of our everyday lives. The show will continue at the Peacock Foundation Studio of The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County through Saturday, December 7.
These events are easy to appreciate on Facebook, where photos and albums present the latest art and style trends. Digital artist Sylvie Robert has taken over 2,000 photographs at Art Basel and uploaded them in albums. Satellite events like “5 Miles of Art” in Miami’s South Beach also come to you via social media. In fact, the title of the official Art Basel outdoor art installation is called “Social Animals.”
If spontaneity is part of your own artistic expression, there are a few last minute packages available from Los Angeles. Expedia.com has packages at three different tourist class hotels in Hollywood Beach just north of Miami Beach for just $646 including round-trip airfare from Los Angeles and accommodations for three nights.
