One of the ultimate family fun places in the Philadelphia region has to be Linvilla Orchards in Media, Pa.
Home to pumpkin and apple picking, hayrides, pick your own Christmas trees, a garden center, farm market, Play-land, a petting zoo and delicious homemade pies, cakes and cookies, there is always something fun to do at Linvilla. This weekend was no exception. Along with their regular offerings, Linvilla sponsored an Arts and Music festival featuring artisans from across the region and a full slate of local musicians.
Sprawled out on the grounds between Play-land and the petting zoo were about 75 crafters and artists offering various wares, from adorable hand carved caricature bottle stoppers to fine art photographers, painters and hand made musical instruments. There was a good variety among the artists which also included hand made furniture, pottery, kids toys and metal sculpture to name a few. Families enjoyed what turned out to be 2 days of pristine, sunny weather perusing items and buying gifts. Both days were packed with people and activity but never seemed uncomfortably crowded.
Most exhibitors had something for every budget, ranging in price from $1.00 for a postcard to $25 for a handmade paper mache’ pumpkin to $350 for original art. Most artists reported sales of mid price items in the $15-$30 range.
The show is large enough to provide a good variety of artisans and small enough that attendees can get around to all of the booths. If you are looking to spend a great day in the Philly suburbs on an autumn day next year, this is an experience not to be missed.
The Arts and Music festival is always held the third week of September. There is no admission fee and parking is free.
