Starting Mon. Sept. 9, 2013 talk show “The Arsenio Hall Show” begins again at 10:30 p.m. but this time on ch 23.1 KOKI. Arsenio Hall had a show in the 1990's but was fired over having Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan as a guest. Hall's show was replaced by one with host Jon Stewart which failed miserably. Jon Stewart would later go on to be the highest paid host on TV for hosting “The Daily Show”. Arsenio's show was fading before the Farrakhan controversy because he had started to get arrogant. He actually said that people weren't watching the Oscars because they were watching his show.
Farrakhan is the leader of the Nation of Islam and was regarded as racist. Before appearing on Arsenio, Farrakhan had largely been relegated to buying time on satellites. Numerous KKK members and other racists had been allowed on several day time shows including a famous fight on “Geraldo”. TV talk show host Morton Downey, Jr. had faked that he had been attacked by racists in an airport. After the controversy, Downey's show failed opening up the path for the rise of Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stern. Arsenio's original show took over a lot of Downey's time-slots.
Arsenio's original show was hip and a self described party. Bill Clinton, then running for President, played a saxophone as a guest member of Arsenio's band.
Arsenio is a lot older and seems to be depending on his friends as guests for his upcoming show. This didn't work with Chevy Chase who relied too much on inside jokes and things that amused himself.
