Arsenal on the trail of Napoli midfielder Eduardo Vargas

Arsenal have had a tough go of it lately and according to reports from TalkSport on Jan. 3, 2012 they are hopeful of making a move for Napoli midfielder Eduardo Vargas before the end of the winter window to help lighten the load on their midfield.

In the club’s most recent dismal display against Southampton on New Year’s day, star summer acquisition Sanit Cazorla looked exhausted from the winter fixture congestion and the rest of the squad likewise seemed a little burnt out.

Comments from Vargas’ agent, Cristian Ogalde make it seems as though the Chilean international is ready to take his leave from the Neopolitans:

I do not know if this is the last we'll see of Vargas at Napoli.

That all depends on the club. It is very likely that he'll leave though.

That decision however, is entirely down to them. The player just wants to play again in order to feel important.

The Gunners have had issues with their depth in recent seasons and the addition of another fine midfielder such as Vargas could be a major boost for them. The likes of players such as Andrey Arshavin and even Tomas Rosicky could be called into question with the possible addition of the young South American.

Additionally the continued injury struggles of Abu Diaby only seem to be compounding the problems that Arsenal have been facing in the midfield as they lack that dynamic cutting edge in the deeper role.
