"Arrow" has a new regular cast member on Colton Haynes. According to The Hollywood Reporter on March 13, the former "Teen Wolf" star will get a promotion from recurring cast member to a regular cast member for season two of the DC Comics superhero series.
Hayes debuted on "Arrow" last month as Roy Harper, a pickpocket who catches the fancy of Oliver's younger sister Thea. On the series, he is a poor kid doing whatever he can to make money to help care for his drug addicted mother.
In the comics, Roy Harper is Speedy, the sidekick to the Green Arrow. One of the most famous Green Arrow story lines of all time involves Speedy becoming addicted to heroin and Green Arrow kicking him to the curb to clean himself up on his own. There isn't much of a chance of Oliver becoming that callous on the TV show, but there also isn't any indication that Haynes will become a superhero any time soon either.
Interestingly, Thea's nickname given to her by Oliver is also Speedy. The producers say that with the promotion to regular cast member, fans can expect Roy to become very important in Thea's life. Colton Haynes is the second announced new regular cast member for season two of "Arrow." Emily Bett Rickards will be a regular as well as Oliver's tech wizard Felicity Smoak.
