'Arrow' promotes Colton Haynes to series regular for season two

Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) is running around Starling City telling the corrupt that they have failed, but today Warner Bros., the studio behind Arrow has certainly not failed its fans. WB has confirmed that yet another fan favorite has been promoted for season two. Colton Haynes, who plays Roy Harper and is a guest star through the end of the first season, joins Emily Bett Rickards as new series regulars next year.

As Roy, Haynes gets to be a little bit of a smart ass and a little bit of a bad boy. He was introduced into the Arrow landscape when he stole Thea's (Willa Holland) purse, but she pursued him to get it back, even showing up at his door in The Glades. They had a banter that sparked an attraction between both of them, and despite his insistence that she stay away from the dangers of him, they will be drawn together continuously.

"The Arrow’s always saying The Glades has something to do with the overall scheme of things. Whether that means that Roy has been secretly trying to infiltrate the Queens’ life for a while, or they’re going to be shaping him from the disaster of The Glades, though, we will find out!" Haynes told LA TV Insider Examiner.

Soon Roy will meet the Queen family and maybe even come face-to-face with the city's vigilante when he is kidnapped and Thea goes to her brother for help.

Whether or not Roy will become The Arrow's sidekick that he is in the comics may be a story better explored in season two, though. He hasn't even officially received the "Speedy" nickname on-screen yet. In a deleted scene from his early encounter with Thea, she did call him that because of how fast he ran when he stole from her, but he was not too keen on the title. "Tell me about it," she retorted. But now there will be ample time to work that back in-- even well before he may learn Oliver's secret.

"We don’t want Oliver to look dumb, you know? We don’t want him to look casual with his secret. It’s still a very important thing. That’s our guiding principle more than anything else," executive producer Marc Guggenheim said to us.

Arrow airs on The CW on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m.
