This episode is all about the Lance family. Instead of an island flashback, the writers give us Lance family flashbacks that start when Sara came home to go on the Gambit with Oliver. The most important thing that the flashbacks show is what the relationship between Laurel and Sara was like. Sadly, there aren’t any really telling scenes aside from one small fight. Once Laurel finds out that Sara is still alive, obviously it doesn’t go well. Did anyone think that it would? Laurel’s excuses are to be expected, but it is a little annoying that the “you stole my life” came back up. Did you expect Laurel to act any differently?

Felicity discovers the Thea secret, and Moira strongly warns Felicity against telling Oliver. Moira knows how to make a threat without actually threating physical harm. The upside to this? It leads to a Felicity backstory moment! The writers only give us a small moment, but it is great that they are finally addressing the fact that we know nothing about Felicity. This happens because Felicity is afraid that she will lose Oliver like she lost her dad. Also, it is great that the writers don’t make us sit through episodes of Felicity wondering whether or not to tell Oliver because it would have ended with Oliver learning from someone else and learning that Felicity kept it from him. What did you think of Felicity’s backstory moment?

Here are quick thoughts on elsewhere in the episode. A lot is revealed about Sara, such as her romance with Nyssa. The writers handle this well, and it definitely is a way to make the League coming after Sara feel different this time around. It is great hearing Sara talk about how her soul can’t take much more killing because it speaks to her character. Hopefully the writers will continue to have her discussing this with someone. Oliver finds out about the Thea secret, and obviously it ends with him telling his mom that he is done with her. The tension is not really exciting because it has happened before. The Queen family drama is an expected part of the show, so anytime it reappears it is more sigh worthy than shock worthy. What did you think of the episode?
