Oliver: “I know that I haven’t always been the best brother or friend or whatever you needed me to be, but there hasn’t been a day since you were born that I didn’t cherish having you as a sister.”
“City of Blood” is the April 30 episode of “Arrow.” If you haven’t seen it yet, beware of spoilers. Be sure to check out the slideshow for more quotes from tonight's episode. There are only two episodes left! “Arrow” airs Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. central on the CW.
Oliver goes into seclusion after Moira’s death. He misses her funeral, and hides out in his second lair because of course he has a second one. Oliver is completely broken and defeated. It’s heartbreaking. One thing that is still a little unclear is why learning that Sebastian is involved kick started him into gear. Perhaps it is because Oliver learned that Slade was going to kill Moira anyway to ensure that Sebastian got into office. Maybe Laurel’s speech helped too. The turning point isn’t as dramatic as it could have been.
Thea is done with Starling City. She wants out, and it makes sense. There’s nothing left for her. She does begin to question Oliver a bit when she is talking to Walter, but there really isn’t all that much. To be fair, we have been overloaded with annoyed Thea, so it was nice to take a break. Oliver does play big brother and say some super sweet things that made me tear up. It would have been nice if he came clean about more things to Thea. Do you think Thea should move away or stay in Starling?
Laurel steps up and makes her knowledge known. It is great to see her take charge. She gets evidence that proves that Sebastian is working with Slade, and then she gives Oliver the pep talk of a lifetime. Her scene with Oliver is absolutely perfect and watching her plead with him not to surrender made my heart ache. I’m so happy seeing Laurel exciting and interesting again. She is the only one who can reach through to Oliver. It also doesn’t hurt that she reveals Sebastian Blood’s tie to Slade. Did you love Laurel and Oliver’s scene together?
Sebastian and Oliver have been friends. Sure, they never went out drinking or bowling together, but they have always been buddies. It would have been nice to have an acknowledgement of that when Oliver confronts Sebastian. It would have added another layer. Still, their confrontation is pretty great, and it proves that Sebastian has his own twisted motives. Did Sebastian surprise you?
The flashback scenes are unnecessary. The only good part of it is that we learn who Oliver quotes when he says the line about the essence of heroism. I know they are definitely going to be progressing to something insane, but in this episode, the flashback scenes sometimes interrupt the drama and suspense. The last scene especially so because things are getting insane with Isabel and Diggle, and Oliver and Laurel versus the mirakuru. The blood is pumping, and then all of a sudden we are in a sub. It’s jarring and not in a good way.
What did you think of the episode? Any theories on what’s to come? Are you happy to see Isabel in full ass kicking mode? Don't think I didn't notice that tiny bit of Felicity back story we got. It was glorious. Leave me your thoughts in a comment below.
