Arrest made in Palo Alto sexual assault

Palo Alto police have arrested the man believed to be responsible for the March 9 robbery and sexual assault of a massage therapist at a local hotel.

According to authorities, the suspect contacted the victim in response to an online advertisement for massage services. He met her at the Glass Slipper Inn where he produced a knife and ordered the victim to give him her money before sexually assaulting her.

The suspect fled the room and encountered an associate of the victim. He brandished the knife at her as well, but she had nothing of value to surrender, police say.

The suspect’s image was captured on a surveillance camera and police released the picture to the public for help in identifying him.

An investigation into the case led detectives to 44-year-old David Yi, who had two felony warrants for his arrest. Yi was also on active probation in Santa Clara County from a prior conviction for possession of methamphetamine and being under the influence of narcotics.

Yi was located last Friday in San Jose and arrested on the outstanding warrants. Palo Alto detectives worked with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and obtained a felony arrest warrant charging Yi with robbery, attempted robbery, and forcible oral copulation. He was served with the warrant Tuesday while still in custody.

Police report that there is no connection between this incident and other recent robberies that have occurred throughout Palo Alto since early December.
