Arrest made in murder of Holy Hill man whose body was found in his front yard

A Berkeley County man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly killing a man during an attempted robbery at the victim’s home.

No one witnessed the shooting and it took investigators months to find a suspect in the deadly shooting that happened last year, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Kenneth Campbell, Jr., 22, of Cedar Drive in Saint Stephen, was charged with murder in the Sept. 24 shooting of Mr. Richard Davis, deputies said.

Investigators said Mr. Campbell was attempting to rob the Holly Hill man.

Mr. Davis was found in the front yard of his Surfside Dr. home, Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said.

Investigators did not say who found the man or where in the body he was shot.

“We are grateful to bring closure to the victim’s family,” Sheriff Ravenell said in a news release.

Mr. Campbell was being held in the Orangeburg County jail, pending an arraignment scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
