According to the Democrat & Chronicle, a Rochester, N.Y., man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon for allegedly abusing his German shepherd.
Authorities arrested Brett D. Neil on a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty.
Humane investigators with Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, were alerted to the alleged abuse by a video which was taken by a concerned neighbor. In the video, Neil is shown with a hose, spraying the dog for an extended period of time; at one point, he appears to strike the dog with a rake.
The video clips taken of the alleged abuse quickly went viral via social media and, according to humane investigators, the public's outraged demands for justice actually hindered the investigation process.
The young dog who appeared to be victimized in the video, "Princess," was taken to Lollypop Farm to be examined.
Neil is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday - he faces the possibility of a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail.
