A Santa Clara man has been arrested in connection with last week’s grisly murder of San Jose resident Maria Esther Orozco.

Sunnyvale police took 47-year-old Feliciano Valencia-Santiago into custody just before 8 p.m. on Friday as the suspect was riding his bicycle near El Camino Real and Halford Avenue in Santa Clara. He was linked to the crime through steadfast investigation into a number of tips received by the Sunnyvale PD.

Investigators allege that Valencia-Santiago killed Orozco by striking her over the head with a blunt object. It is believed that the homicide occurred in a house on Revere Drive that had been abandoned following a fire. Orozco’s body was found in a trash bag hidden in some bushes on Ticonderoga Drive in Sunnyvale on Sunday, June 5, 2011.

Police are still determining how the suspect and victim knew each other, as well as what the motive for the killing may have been. Valencia-Santiago has been booked into Santa Clara County Jail on homicide charges.
