Chris "The Nightmare" Arreola annihilated Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell in the first round September 8 at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, CA.
Mitchell (26-2-1, 19 KOs) wanted to box in the opening stanza, but Arreola (36-3, 31 KOs) used pressure to force the action. Mitchell landed a good combination that Arreola took well. The Riverside, CA. boxer stepped inside and uncorked a right hand. The punch rocked Mitchell badly - he grabbed Arreola and held on.
After being thrown to the canvas, Mitchell got up, but was still wobbly. A combination of punches dropped him officially. Mitchell, fighting out of desperation, connected with a hard left hook, but Arreola didn’t blink. A series of punches knocked Mitchell into the ropes where referee Jack Reiss determined that he couldn’t defend himself.
The time was 2:26.
“"I want to thank myself for putting the work in," said the elated Arreola after the stoppage. "I worked my [butt] off in Phoenix preparing for this fight. I respect Seth for his power, but the big difference for me was in training camp."
"All my other losses are on me for not training properly. But I came here to win tonight. And it was easy work," added Arreola.
"I got caught," said the distraught Mitchell. "I am very disappointed. I was confident in my ability to win this fight. My heart just hurts right now."
