Women's Swimming: Senior Kelsey Vehr's outstanding Miami career came to a close at the NCAA Swimming Championships in Austin, Texas. She finished with the 20th-best time of 1:00.91 in a 49-person field in the 100-meter breaststroke. She also swam in the 200-meter breaststroke, but was disqualified for flutter-kicking. Vehr holds four MAC records and won 10 MAC titles in her career. She was a 2010 All-American.
Softball: With their stellar performances the week before while the team was in Hawai'i, pitcher Jessica Simpson and shortstop Kayla Ledbetter were named MAC East Division Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. That makes it four weeks in a row for Simpson, while Ledbetter earns the award for the second time in three weeks. Simpson started four of Miami's five games in the Pepsi Malihini Aloha Tournament, posting a record of 3-1. All of her performances were complete games, with the three victories being shutouts. In 27 innings, she struck out 31 batters. Ledbetter hit .364 in the tournament with three RBIs. She slugged .636 while posting an on-base percentage of .533. Both players were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Lady 'Hawks (11-8) were off this past week, but will resume action on Thursday with a doubleheader at home against Morehead State (9-16). On Friday they will host Toledo (3-14) and Marshall (11-15) and then Purdue (16-7) on Saturday for the Miami Invitational.
Golf: The golf team competed at the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational in Orlando, finishing in ninth place in an 18-team field, shooting 26-over par. Nathan Sutherland was Miami's highest finisher, shooting a 2-under par, good for a 10th place tie. Michael Drobnick shot 1-under par, finishing in a 14th-place tie. Next up for the team is the FAU Spring Break Classic in Delray Beach, Florida March 25-27.
Football: Spring practice will get underway on Tuesday, March 22. The 14-practice schedule will have the RedHawks at work four mornings a week for the next three weeks, leading up to the Red & White Game to be played Friday, April 15.
