Women's Cross Country: Running in the Great Lakes Regionals in Michigan on Saturday, Rachel Patterson finished fifth overall, running a school record time of 20:40.39 in the 6K. That finish was enough to earn her an individual berth in the NCAA Championships November 22. She is the first 'Hawk to qualify since 2003, and just the eighth all-time. As a team, Miami finished seventh out of 33 teams. Four other Miami runners finished high enough to earn points in the standings: Maggie Bingham (34th), Amanda Mirochna (52nd), Jillian Dickman (60th), and Kelley Miller (72nd).
Men's Cross Country: In the men's race, Miami finished 18th overall in the 31-team field, running their first 10K of the year. Michael Perry was the top finisher for the 'Hawks coming in 60th place. The other four point-winners for Miami were Robbie Fisher (78th), Matt Marol (94th), Jarrod Eick (101st) and David Eichenberger (112th).
Football: Trevor Cook and Nick Harwell were both named MAC Players of the Week for their roles in the 'Hawks' dramatic 24-21 victory over Bowling Green on Wednesday. Harwell earned the Offensive Player of the Week award by catching 10 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown. In being named the Special Teams Player of the Week, Cook made his return from a knee injury that caused him to miss two games and kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired through ridiculously thick fog. It's the second time this year both players have won the award.
Women's Basketball: Maggie Boyer was named the MAC Player of the Week following Miami's season-opening 84-71 defeat to No. 9 Kentucky Sunday night. She had 19 points and three assists in the game, making sure the 'Hawks stayed close against the highly favored Wildcats. Courtney Osborn added 18 points and six rebounds for Miami.
Ice Hockey: The Hockey Brotherhood dropped in the national rankings for the second week in a row following their weekend split with Alaska. The 'Hawks now sit at No. 6 in both the USA Today and USCHO.com polls. They are No. 8 in the INCH Power Rankings. It is the first time since the 2008-2009 season that the 'Hawks were not ranked in the Top 5, a span of 31 consecutive polls. The five teams ahead of Miami are the same in both polls: 1) Minnesota-Duluth, 2) Boston University, 3) Maine, 4) Nebraska- Omaha and 5) Yale. The 'Hawks (6-3-3, 4-2-2-1), who are still the highest-ranked CCHA team, play on the road this weekend against Bowling Green (5-7, 2-6).
Volleyball: The regular season came to a disappointing end, as the volleyball team (10-17, 5-11) lost its third straight match, dropping both matches this weekend, 3-0 against Ohio (17-11, 10-6) and 3-1 against Kent State(13-18, 6-10). The 'Hawks were awarded the 11th seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament, and will play sixth-seeded Central Michigan (14-14, 8-8) in the tournament's first round Tuesday.
Swimming: The men's swimming team (1-4-1) suffered losses to Ohio State and Kenyon, by scores of 144-94 and 132-111. However, the while the women's team improved their record to 4-1 with a 168-71 victory over Kenyon.
