Field Hockey: After downing Ohio University in the semifinals 3-0, the RedHawks lost in the final minutes of the MAC Championship game 3-2 to Kent State. After a scoreless first half, Miami got on the board first, with Kylie Landeros scoring her fifth goal of the year in the 45th minute. Kent tied the game in the 51st minute. Then both teams scored in the 54th minute, just 31 seconds apart. However the Golden Flashes scored the decisive goal in the 68th minute to steal the championship title. After the game, Landeros, Mary Hull and Sarah Mueller were named to the All-Tournament Team. Miami's 14 wins this season is tied for the third-most in program history.
Women's Soccer: Two days after the soccer team lost in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament to eventual champion Central Michigan, Julie Thompson and Jess Kodiak were named to the All-MAC Tournament Team. Though neither midfielder recorded a point in the tournament, they were instrumental in controlling the passing lanes. Kodiak led the team with 24 points this season. She had eight goals and eight assists, both of which were tied for team-highs. Thompson had three goals and three assists for 9 points on the season.
Men's Cross Country: David Eichenberger was named the MAC male Scholar Athlete of the Week. The exercise science and pre-med major has a 3.92 GPA. He finished fourth overall at the MAC Tournament and was named All-MAC.
Ice Hockey: The Brotherhood saw a drop in the national rankings this week after two poor performances against Ferris State. The 'Hawks lost their grip on the top spots after holding them for only two weeks. In the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, the 'Hawks dropped to No.3, but fell one spot further to No. 4 in the USCHO.com poll. They dropped all the way down to No. 5 in the INCH Power Rankings. Boston University and Minnesota-Duluth are the top two teams in all three rankings. Miami currently sits in third place in the CCHA standings, two points behind Notre Dame and one behind Michigan. The 'Hawks (5-2-3, 3-1-2-1) return home this weekend to host Alaska (6-3-1, 3-2-1-1) in a crucial CCHA matchup.
Volleyball: Miami (10-15, 5-9) split it's weekend series, gaining a 3-0 win over Bowling Green, but falling 3-1 to Western Michigan. The regular season concludes this weekend with matches at home against Ohio (16-11, 8-6) and Kent State (11-18, 4-10).
Men's Basketball: The 'Hawks opened their exhibition season with a 90-51 drumming over Ohio Northern. Nick Winbush led Miami with 19 points, and three other 'Hawks scored in double digits. The regular season kicks off with a home game on Friday against Towson.
Women's Basketball: The Lady 'Hawks enjoyed a similar exhibition blowout victory over Tiffin 83-50. Five players scored in double digits, with Maggie Boyer leading the way with 14 points. Miami enjoyed a 52-17 lead at halftime and cruised to victory after that. Their regular season opens November 15 at home against Kentucky.
Swimming: The men's team fell 165-135 to Buffalo, while the women's team downed Eastern Michigan 193.5-95.5.
