Men's Cross Country: Jarrod Eick was the top finisher at the Dayton Flyer 5K Challenge, leading the RedHawks to a first-place team finish on Saturday in Kettering, in the team's first competition of the season. The 'Hawks won this event for the eighth time in nine years by placing its top five finishers in 1st, 4th, 5th, 10th and 11th place for a team score of 29, 11 points better than second-place Dayton. This weekend, the 'Hawks will return to Oxford to host the Miami Open on Saturday.
Women's Cross Country: The Lady 'Hawks took second place in the same competition with a score of 46 points, 17 points behind Dayton. Miami's top finisher was Jess Hoover, who took fourth place. This weekend will also see the women's team competing at the Miami Open this Saturday in Oxford.
Volleyball: Miami (5-2) faced some stiff competition at the Pittsburgh Invitational, managing only one win in three games. The tournament opened against four-time defending national champion #2 Penn State (4-1), which the 'Hawks dropped 0-3 (20-25, 18-25, 21-25). Miami did bounce back for a 3-1 win (21-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20) over New Hampshire (0-7) later Friday. Then in the weekend finale against host Pittsburgh (6-1), Miami fell 3-0 (22-25, 22-25, 18-25). Jenn Caylor was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second time in as many weekends, picking up 23 digs and 23 kills in the tournament. This coming weekend, the RedHawks will host the Miami/Best Western Invitational. Alabama A&M (2-7), Radford (2-3) and Florida Gulf Coast (2-4) will all be in Oxford for the tournament.
Field Hockey: The RedHawks (1-3) saw their season-opening losing streak hit three games in Friday's 3-2 overtime loss against Monmouth before downing Rutgers 3-0 for the first win of the season. Sarah Mueller was perfect in goal for Miami Sunday, stopping all five shots that came her way. The 'Hawks will now return for a seven-game homestand that starts with games against Virginia (2-2) and Michigan State (0-5) this weekend.
Soccer: Following a week off, the RedHawks (2-2) will look to return to their winning ways when they host the Miami Invitational. The other teams competing are Tennessee-Martin (5-1), East Tennessee State (3-2) and Wright State (3-2-1).
